Hot off the presses, our new book, MyICU Guide

Hot off the presses, our new book, MyICU Guide

ICU Guidebook & Mobile App

The MyICU Guidebook & Mobile App's mission is to help people with loved ones in an intensive care unit (ICU) understand better what takes place in an ICU and why and how it has been determined that their loved one needs to be cared for in an ICU.

Following the readings and suggestions in this guidebook helps family members of ICU patients develop a better understanding of the ICU's inner workings. We provide bite-sized details about what to expect through examples based on a range of medical conditions and outcomes. We discuss the individuals who work in ICUs and their respective roles. We also offer guidance on how to advocate for their loved ones, and in doing so, we hope to put some sense of control into the hands of family members.

At its core, his guidebook is designed to help improve outcomes for family members, whom research has shown are more often suffer trauma by being part of the ICU process, leading to post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Much Ado About Post ICU

Much Ado About Post ICU is a heavily researched review of the evolution of Post Intensive Care Syndrome (PICS) from 2012 to the present to analyze the approach the vast majority of researchers have taken, such as issues possibly overlooked and deserving of consideration, such as:

Was PICS introduction in 2012 well-conceived and purposeful?

Have Post ICU outcomes improved since 2012?

Has PICS research led to findings that weren't obvious from the outset?

Has the PICS unintentionally been an impediment to medical professionals from a wide array of specialties' ability to address the individual diagnoses that comprise PICS?

Coming in the Summer of 2025 | MyICU Guide & MyICU Mobile App

Pre-Order MyICU Books & Mobile Apps

Rainer Philanthropies, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is pleased to announce that we are adding a new website to our patient-centric Post Intensive Care Syndrome informational websites this summer.

We are adding MyICU, www.myicu.org, to our two websites, www.pics.ngo and www.posticu.org. MyICU will be home to our MyICU Guide, a free online and paper version of a new tool to assist families of intensive care unit patients. The MyICU Guide will help those with loved ones in the ICU understand how to navigate the ICU more effectively by providing bite-sized chunks of information about the people who work in the ICU and the incredible work that takes place there every day.

Using charts, graphs, and bullet points, the MyICU Guide offers users various options for its use. By integrating an ICU Diary into the guide, users have the option of learning as much or as little as they feel they need. The guide also includes a section for collecting information that research has shown can help both families while their loved one is in the ICU and after discharge.

The MyICU Guide will be available in several versions on this website, including a web app version and a downloadable paper version. It will also be made available as a standalone app.
